The term boldness alludes to effort, courage, ardor or energy. This is a characteristic that can be noticed in the execution of certain actions.
For example: “Swiss tennis player is trying hard to regain the top spot in the world ranking”, “The opposition is dedicated to aggressively attacking all our projects without even analyzing them”, “The police tried hard to arrest the aggressor, but could not do it ”.
What is done with courage is done with verve. Different is the case of an act developed in a listless or apathetic way. In general, acting boldly increases the chances of achieving the desired goal, although character does not guarantee success either.
Boldness is associated with effort and verve when acting.
Examples of acting boldly
Suppose a man loses his job. Faced with this situation, he begins to review the classified ads in the newspapers, enters Internet portals focused on labor issues, distributes his curriculum vitae in numerous companies and communicates with his contacts to inform them that he is looking for new opportunities. It can be said, therefore, that this subject is looking hard for a new job.
Take the case of a soccer player who suffers a serious injury. The young man undergoes surgery, but in principle fails to recover. Although another athlete in his place could choose to retire from professional activity, he decides to try hard to return to the sport. So he undergoes another three operations and begins a complex rehabilitation that allows him, two years later, to play football again, just as he longed for.
Boldness is essential in certain actions.
Some synonyms
Some of the synonyms of this term, which can help us understand its meaning and its nuances in greater depth, are the following: «boldness, intrepidity, decision, courage, bravery, spirit, courage, effort, daring, daring, gallantry» and “resolution”. Regarding the antonyms, we can mention “cowardice, indecision” and “discouragement”.
If we analyze the two examples presented in the previous paragraphs, we can see that some of these synonyms can be applied without problems to express the same messages. The man who has lost his job, on his part, looks for a new one with courage, with effort and, above all, with a great resolution that allows him to continue until he has achieved his goal.
The soccer player who has suffered an injury that threatens to take him forever away from his most beloved sport, similarly, fights decisively, bravely and fearlessly, without losing heart, until an unlikely recovery is achieved. It is only with an attitude of this type that we can get ahead in the most difficult moments, resurface from the deepest wells and continue walking, against all negative forecasts.
A person who acts boldly, therefore, can represent a great example for those who observe them, a source of inspiration to achieve their goals. Needless to say, moving through life in a cowardly, indecisive or discouraged way does not lead us to anything good, but rather exponentially increases our chances of failure.
Boldness in religion
For the Christian religion, the term boldness is of great importance, since it is usually associated with the apostle Saint Paul, who in 2Cor. 4:13 said “I believed, therefore I spoke.” When preaching the word of God, conviction and authority are necessary, but also daring, courage, self-confidence, all traits that are associated with the concept of boldness.
In the New Testament, this term is often used to refer to things that are stated quite frankly and clearly, such as when Jesus revealed to the disciples that he would be put to death in Mark 8:32. This attitude is also reflected when preachers are not afraid of the reaction of those who receive their message.
