The dictionary of the DigoPaul presents more than twenty meanings of channel, a term whose etymological root is found in the Latin word canālis.
The idea of a canal can be linked to the channel built by man to conduct or use water. Channel is also called the deepest sector that allows entry to a port and roads in general through which a fluid can circulate.
A canal, therefore, can be an engineering work that enables navigation from the opening of a channel. So-called navigation canals can be built in an ocean, a river, a lagoon, or other bodies of water.

Another well-known man-made canal is the Suez Canal, which links the Red Sea with the Mediterranean Sea in Egypt.
On the other hand, it is called an irrigation channel that allows the water to be directed from a catchment area to a field where it is used to irrigate crops. It is important that these canals are carefully constructed to avoid damage to the environment.

In the field of communications, a channel can be the conduit that allows the circulation of a message.

That term refers to a station that is responsible for transmitting audio and video to television receivers. All over the world there are channels of this type that broadcast a daily schedule that includes everything from news to television series through movies, entertainment programs or sports broadcasts.
Within the field of communications, there are also radio channels. They are stations that broadcast a wide variety of content through radio waves on a daily basis.
